Willunga Farmers Market embraces new management team
Willunga Farmers Market is excited to welcome a new management team with the departure of both Graham Boyd, Market Manager and Zara Lupton, Assistant Market Manager in short succession of each other.
WFM has gone from strength to strength under their leadership and innovation and has benefited greatly from their time, dedication and skills. The governing committee, market members and stall holders wish them both all the best for the future.
The new management team comes to WFM with strong ties to the local community and experience in community projects and events, amongst other skills.
Steve Ashley, a local Willunga resident, will step into the position of Market Manager. Steve comes direct from a role as Major Events and Economic Development Officer with Alexandrina Council.
His extensive experience in event management and the development of many community based projects stands him in good stead to take this hugely successful farmers market to the next level.
‘I’ve always had a keen interest in the relationship between community, food, social justice and ecological sustainability,’ Steve explains.
‘Alongside the natural meeting of my interests and past volunteer and paid positions, my partner is also a stallholder at the market. I’ve got a fairly good knowledge of the market from the stall holders side of things as well.’
Billy Doecke stepped into the position of Assistant Market Manager mid April, coming from a position with the corporate communications team with SA Ambulance Service. With experience in communications, marketing and event management she has already embraced the broad and differing aspects of the farmers market.
‘I’ve always been passionate about fresh ,local produce and directly supporting the people who work hard to put the food in front of us,’ she says.
‘As a shopper here in the past I enjoyed meeting the producers, and getting the opportunity to chat with them about their produce and farming methods. Not only that, but the food is so much fresher!’
Members of the local community also have the opportunity to contribute to the future direction of Willunga Farmers Market. The WFM AGM will be held on Tuesday 24 August 2010 at 7pm at Waverley House St Peter’s Tce Willunga. For more information contact the WFM office on 8556 4297 or [email protected]
