Willunga Farmers Market wins National Award!
On Monday, 16th August the winners of the 2021 delicious. Harvey Norman Produce Awards, the country’s most prestigious food industry event, were announced via a ‘virtual’ award presentation.
The delicious. Harvey Norman Produce Awards recognise the best Australian produce from all over the country and, importantly, the people behind it.
Willunga Farmers Market was announced as the trophy winner for the Outstanding Farmers Market award which acknowledges a vibrant and engaging community-focused farmers’ market that displays ‘true authenticity’.
Now in its 20th year of operation, the WFM is a fresh food market that operates every Saturday in the heart of the historic Willunga township. It is a place where farmers and specialty food producers from the Fleurieu Peninsula can sell farm-origin and associated value-added specialty foods directly to customers.’
Shoppers and WFM members took to social media to celebrate and congratulate the market, “Brilliant, well done – of course we all knew it anyway”, said local Julie Cavanagh

That is all the producers, customers, staff and the amazing band of covid marshal volunteers who have kept the market going in the past 18 months despite Covid curveballs. It’s my favourite place to be each week, surrounded by great people and we hunt and gather our bounty for the week” said Leon from McLaren Vale
Pip Forrester, Chair of the WFM thanked delicious Australia and Award sponsors Harvey Norman for their contribution to the food industry and for celebrating the farmers and producers of Australia, “15 years ago, this sort of thing wouldn’t have happened – it is so important to have this recognition”.
The Willunga Farmer Market has moved to a temporary location in the grounds of the Willunga High School, just 1km north of the Town Square. Operating the Market in the large, open site for the next 12 months provides clear direction to stallholders, staff, volunteers and shoppers whilst continued uncertainty over the Covid-19 pandemic remains.
