Matthew Evans – Gourmet Farmer
Gourmet Farmer comes to Willunga
Cooking Demonstration, Q&A, Book Signing
In The Real Food Companion, writer, farmer and chef Matthew Evans urges us to
prioritise locally grown produce, not only to support sustainable farming, but to
appreciate the true taste and flavour of real food – the kind of food you’ll find at the
Willunga Farmers Market.
The Willunga Farmers Market will welcome Matthew Evans on Saturday, 3
December. Matthew will step into the Market kitchen at 10am and share his passion
for fresh, seasonal flavours sourced from the stalls of the Farmers Market.
A chef and food critic turned farmer-food activist, Matthew lives on a mixed farm
that occupies a one-time apple orchard in the Huon Valley outside Hobart with his
partner Sadie Chrestman and son Hedley. He is nationally best known for his longrunning SBS series Gourmet Farmer, set on Fat Pig Farm’s 70 acres and hosts
weekly farmhouse feasts and on-site cooking classes, which are often booked out
months ahead.
Many of his 200 recipes celebrate overlooked ingredients or just plain old-fashioned
fresh flavours that can be found across the nation at farmers’ markets; simple, truly
seasonal food that real people can find and eat. Food that makes good cooking easy.
Come for the Market, stay for the day! Following Matthews cooking demonstration
there will be the opportunity to ask questions and book signing of his latest releases
